Greetings everyone, Amitābha!
I offer my most sincere respects to the root guru and all the venerable Geshes, Khenpos, and Tulkus present here today, and extend my greetings to all Dharma brothers and sisters both online and offline. May all be auspicious!
Though my knowledge is limited, following the instructions of my most kind root guru and the requirements of Pemako Buddhist Institute, I will share a brief explanation of what "Tsok" is.
First, we should understand that Tsok is not a ritual invented by Tibetan Buddhism. It originates from many excellent tantras of ancient India. The Sanskrit transliteration of Tsok is གཎ་ཙཀྲ (gaṇa tsa kra).
Breaking down the term:
Combined, གཎཙཀྲ (gaṇacakra) translates to "Tsok"!
In tantric practice, Tsok is an extremely important method of practice. Some people think it's just a grand offering ceremony, but it's actually quite different from ordinary offerings! A truly complete Tsok offering only exists in the Highest Yoga Tantra of the tantric vehicle. While similar offering methods exist in other tantric levels like Kriya, Charya, and Yoga Tantra, there are certain differences, so only Highest Yoga Tantra practice can achieve a truly complete Tsok offering.
In a complete Tsok practice, besides first contemplating the five perfections at the beginning, the practice process includes various virtuous practices such as taking refuge and generating bodhicitta, the seven-branch offering, protection circles, confession and purification of obstacles, receiving and maintaining vows, praise and supplication, upper offerings and lower distributions. It can be said that a complete Tsok encompasses the inner meaning of all nine vehicles of the tantric path.
Therefore, many lineage masters of the past have said: "If practitioners wish to swiftly perfect the two accumulations through the ultimate skilful means of the uncommon Vajrayana secret path, they need to perform the excellent Tsok wheel." Both Tsok and mandala offerings are unique practices exclusive to the Vajrayana. The "ultimate skilful means of the secret path" means that these methods are not only for realized saints but are also relatively easy for ordinary people to practice and possess vast meaning and excellent great blessings.
